Mellanrummet
Mellanrummet is a photographic documentation of the "spaces in between"—the quiet, often overlooked landscapes of rural Västra Götaland.
The project began as a reaction to geography. When I resumed my photographic practice in 2024, I initially sought the iconic imagery of traditional landscape photography: mountains, fjords, and dramatic vistas. However, living hours away from such topography, I found myself frustrated by the distance between where I was and where I thought beauty lived.
The turning point came during an ordinary morning commute. Watching the light hit a local field, I realized that the "mundane" landscape outside my window possessed a stillness and texture that was entirely its own. I stopped looking for what was missing and started documenting what was present.
These images—rendered in a long tonal grayscale—are an attempt to slow down the viewer. They focus on the traces of farming life, the architecture of the back roads, and the heavy, silent atmosphere of the Swedish countryside. It is a study of presence over spectacle.
Ultimately, this work is a reminder to appreciate the immediate surroundings we often neglect in favor of distant ideals.
This isn't a fantasy world; this is just down the road, if you bother to look.
